I'm about to have a lot of free time at 3am. So I started learning to vibe code.
Second kid arrives next week. Here's what I remember from the first: a lot of hours on the night shift, awake between feedings, scrolling my phone in the dark because sleeping wasn't worth it.
This time I have Claude Code.
On Friday night I planned four projects on my phone from bed. On Saturday after dinner I shipped them:
• A sports scheduler that emails my availability, lets players one-click book, and sends the calendar invite • A weekend planner that scans local events, checks the weather, and tells us what to do • An Amazon transaction translator so our budget review stops turning into detective work • A dinner engine that rotates our favorites, suggests new recipes, and pivots when the toddler declares all yellow food unacceptable
I haven't written code since grade school.
What should I build at 3am during paternity leave?
